1. The Outskirts

The Water Nation of Nightwing resides along the further most shore of the territory. The land holds rocky bluffs and cliffs on its edges. The beaches are riddled with stone mounds until walking far enough toward the waters to reach the soft, white sand. The water is pristine and chilled from the ocean currents that come in, crystal clear at its shallows but soon becoming a deep, endless blue as the waters carry on into the depths. The coast is known to hold alcoves and tunnels beneath the rock that hold secrets and dangerous caverns alike.

The Water Nation's grounds are far deeper than the shorelines. The Nation is arguably one of the more secluded due to its few ways to be reached from above ground. In order to reach its capital by water, one must travel away from the coast and dive nearly 4.5 nautical miles before the trench that makes up its barrier to the land can be reached.

Once the trench is navigated down to its very bottom, the outskirts of the Water Nation grounds begin. The water pressure reaches a null point where those that have been able to exist for as long as the dive, feel the pressure lessen to a tolerable degree by the mysterious energy source that comes from the core of the territory itself.

The water is pitch dark where only creatures of immaculate vision under the sea can tell where silhouettes of rock formations stop and start. Where flat land can be found, following it away from the outer trench's now high walls can lead visitors on the path toward the labyrinth-like forest of stones that makes up the beginning of the trek to the nation's core.

The Stone Labyrinth

Once far enough into the WN grounds, the rock formations take a more organized form gradually. Each one can be several stories tall or more, organic in shape. It is unknown if the stones were carved out of a solid underwater formation or created one by one. They create a loosely maze-like forest of stones that can be hard to navigate, but not impossible to sift through. Without proper navigation, however, you might find yourself walking in circles rather than closer to the center.

The seafloor is home to small plants and coral that can survive in the depths due to the Water Nation's life force that seems to emanate from the point that one reaches the outer trench. Small deepwater fish can be seen sparsely, normally hidden within the stones, and seen in small bunches. It is currently unknown what else still lingers in the Outskirts.

The pillar-like stones that make up the maze have markings on them. They begin by being few and far between and grow more frequent as they go closer toward the 'end (or center) of the maze. These markings glow an ambient blue that also provides more and more light as one passes through.

The pillars do not glow unless in the presence of a Water Nation dragon, or a Rider that has bonded with a Nightwing dragon (known by the mark that the Rider carries on their skin).

The Slumbering Dragon

On the innermost side of the labyrinth's circle lies a portion of the stones that have toppled and embedded into the seafloor to the point where the ground is flat. Small portions of stone and rubble are seen here and there still, where the site itself seems like a massive impact zone. On one edge of this clearing is the cause of the wreckage: the skeleton of a long-forgotten dragon is half-embedded in the sand where it had been struck down and become one with the sea so many years ago.

The death of the dragon was from battle. The depths that it had fallen to raises the question of whether the Water Nation was always so hidden, or if the sea levels around Nightwing had always been as high as they are now. Maybe, just maybe, the force of the massive Warbeast was enough to drive it deep within the ocean floor so many nautical miles below.

The answer won't come with visiting the gravesite alone, but perhaps with reaching the end of the labyrinth.
